Elscope Vision’s AI Inspection Technologies
Elscope Vision (Shanghai) offers a suite of AI-driven scanners that cover all aspects of a vehicle inspection:
• Exterior Body Arch Scanner (Dragate): This is an overhead drive-through portal. Cars roll under the arch without stopping (non-stop scanning), and the system takes thousands of high-res photos. Its 17 cameras capture the car from all sides. The AI then “accurately identifies” every dent and scratch. Thanks to its speed (about 10 seconds per car), a busy lot can process up to 1,500 vehicles in a day with no bottleneck. Once scanned, the Dragate generates a defect map: “different shades of color are used to indicate varying degrees of defects” on each surface. The inspection report lists the total count of dents and scratches per panel and highlights their locations and severity. In short, the Dragate automates the traditional visual check of a car’s body.
• Underbody Scanner (TOTA Pro): This is a drive-over ramp unit for inspecting the vehicle’s underside. It uses high-brightness LED lighting and 4K cameras to illuminate the chassis. A linear laser produces an undistorted, orthogonal image of the undercarriage. Intelligent speed sensors automatically match the scan speed to the vehicle’s movement, so image quality stays sharp even if the car is moving. The AI component “identifies underbody defects such as cracks, rust, scratches, and oil leaks”. For example, a tiny rust spot or an oil drip is flagged automatically. All scan data are saved to the cloud (securely) and accessible via APIs, so maintenance teams can review undercarriage findings remotely.
Elscope Visoin’s TOTA Pro underbody scanner is shown above. It is a drive-over unit equipped with high-intensity illumination and linear lasers to capture clear 4K images of every point underneath a vehicle. Its speed sensor matches the ramp scan to the car’s motion. As the vehicle passes, AI algorithms analyze the imagery in real time and flag any underbody damage or leaks. This automated process replaces manual inspection pits and exposes hidden frame or drivetrain issues.
In all these Elscope systems, AI and imaging go hand-in-hand. Each device uses specially calibrated optics to ensure metrological accuracy (for example, linear lasers for distortion-free images) and deep learning models to interpret the data. The result is an objective inspection: every defect is documented with image evidence and metrics, eliminating subjective judgment.
Applications and Benefits

By automating visual inspection, AI systems yield several advantages:
• Speed and Throughput: A single drive-through scan can inspect an entire car in roughly 10 seconds. This enables high-volume environments (fleet garages, auction houses) to screen hundreds of vehicles per day with minimal staffing.
• Accuracy and Consistency: Unlike humans, an AI scanner doesn’t get tired or distracted. It applies the same criteria to every vehicle, reducing oversight or variability. As one analysis notes, no other approach can scan vehicles “to the degree” of these AI systems, providing consistent defect counts and even detecting very minor damage.
• Comprehensive Reports: Every inspection generates a permanent record – annotated photos, defect inventories, and history. This transparency builds customer trust and helps justify repair decisions. For example, a dealer using the Luban tread scanner reported a surge in tire sales (+80% in a quarter) because customers could clearly see the precise wear data and recommendations.
• Safety and Maintenance: Early detection of underbody rust or suspension issues can prevent breakdowns. Fleets benefit from integrated records that trigger maintenance before failures.
• Integration: Modern systems can feed into software workflows. By storing data on the cloud (with secure access controls) and exposing APIs, AI inspection platforms tie into dealer management systems or logistics databases.
In essence, AI-based vehicle inspection is revolutionizing automotive service and quality control. It shifts tedious, error-prone checks to automated pipelines, boosting efficiency. As UVeye’s CEO put it, leveraging computer vision in this way is making “our cars better and safer”. With proven performance in over 300 installations globally, AI visual inspection is already becoming the new standard for dealerships, insurers, auction houses, and fleet operators.
