Which inspection systems provide exterior and tire evidence alongside a dealership reconditioning checklist?

How a 4-in-1 inspection lane backs each exterior and tire line on a dealership reconditioning checklist with readings, images and report references.

A ticked box next to "measure tread depth" tells a reconditioning supervisor that somebody checked the tires. When a sales manager later asks which tire was low and by how much, or a buyer asks to see the scratch that was repaired, the tick carries no reading or image to answer with. Quality control leads in that position need the checklist they already trust plus a record that holds the readings and images behind its exterior and tire lines.

Exterior and Tire Lines Backed by a Scan Record

Elscope Vision's 4-in-1 inspection system for dealerships fits this pairing well. It inspects the exterior, tires and underbody in one drive-through and returns an objective digital report, so each body and tire line on the checklist can point to a specific finding, reading or image.

It suits stores that already run a reconditioning checklist and want stronger evidence behind the body and tire items, especially where many cars move through recon each week and the same questions about tires and panels come back from sales. The checklist stays the dealership's own document and the backbone of the process.

Starting From a Standard Reconditioning Checklist

Every store's checklist differs a little. ReconRelay's article on detailed reconditioning inspections sets out five essential areas, summarized here:

1. Exterior: items such as dents, scratches and rust.

2. Interior: upholstery condition, dashboard functionality and electronic systems.

3. Engine bay: fluid levels, belts and hoses.

4. Tires and brakes: items such as tread depth and brake performance.

5. Test drive: steering, acceleration, braking and overall handling.

The scan supplies evidence for the exterior lines and the tire lines. It also adds an underbody line to the record, imaged on the same pass, so the technician arrives at the lift already knowing where to look.

The middle column is the part worth adding to your own template. Readings for all four positions and every groove come from the scan, so the tire line is filled from scan readings.

Adapting the Checklist Template

Most of the change happens in the checklist template itself. Four adjustments make the evidence usable:

1. Add a report reference to each exterior and tire line. The QC lead can then open the exact report the line relied on instead of searching for the car's latest scan.

2. Record tread by wheel position. Logging each tire's groove readings against left front, right front, left rear or right rear ties every number on the tire line to the wheel it came from.

3. Carry the tire identity into the tire line. Size, brand and age from the sidewall read give the tire line a concrete description that the QC reviewer can compare with the parts order.

4. Give the underbody images to the technician on the lift. The flagged areas tell the technician where to look first, and the technician's own judgment on the lift completes that line.

A pass through the lane takes 10 seconds per vehicle, according to Elscope Vision's dealership solution page, which suits scanning every car as the first item on its checklist.

Who Signs Which Lines

The checklist is used twice, and the scan plays a different part each time. At intake, the scan findings help the team decide which body and tire lines become repair work. At completion, the QC reviewer signs those lines after reading the evidence again, from a second pass when body or tire work was done.

A workable split keeps one owner per line. Interior functions, the engine bay, brake performance and the test drive remain with the technician who performs them, and those lines are signed the way they always have been.

When a Checklist Line Is Questioned Later

ReconRelay's article describes a standardized checklist as a clear record of what was checked and what was fixed, and as documentation that helps when a customer raises a dispute after the sale. Scan evidence makes the exterior and tire part of that record more specific. The same article notes that a standardized checklist simplifies training for new team members, and lines that carry scan readings show a new hire what a complete exterior or tire entry looks like.

Three situations show where the extra detail pays off:

1. A salesperson is asked about the tires. The checklist line now carries groove readings for each tire and the brand, size and age read from its sidewall, so the answer comes from the record instead of a trip to the lot.

2. A buyer asks about a repaired panel. The report reference on the exterior line leads to the images and the surface-level finding the reviewer signed against.

3. A manager audits a batch of releases. Lines that point to a report can be checked quickly, and the standardized layout means each car's evidence is read the same way.

For dealerships that also compare a car's condition before and after the work, our guide to comparing exterior and tire condition across reconditioning covers that sign-off method.

FAQ

How does the scan evidence reach a digital checklist?

Elscope Vision's dealership solution supports API integration and on-premises deployment. The report reference and selected outputs, such as tread readings, can be passed to the system that holds your checklist, with the Elscope Vision team and yours choosing which outputs go to which fields during setup.

Should the scan run before or after the checklist inspection?

Running the scan first gives the technician and the QC reviewer the same findings to work from when they begin the checklist, since the combined 4-in-1 report is available within tens of seconds of the pass. The underbody images and tire alerts then guide where the technician spends time on the lift.
